How does the PayPal fee calculator work?

Enter the amount on either side of the calculator and we apply PayPal's official commercial transaction fee for the region and payment type you selected. The first card tells you how much you would actually receive after PayPal's cut. The second card works in reverse: pick the net amount you need in your account and we tell you what to invoice so the buyer covers the fee. Rates are kept up to date with the schedules PayPal publishes for merchants in May 2026.

PayPal occasionally updates its fees and runs promotional rates. Always check your account dashboard for the exact rate that applies to your transaction.

Frequently asked questions

What is a PayPal fee?

A PayPal fee is the commission PayPal charges for processing a payment. For commercial payments it is calculated as a percentage of the transaction plus a fixed amount in the currency of the payment.

Are PayPal fees the same in every country?

No. PayPal publishes a different rate sheet for each market. The headline numbers are similar (a few percent plus a small fixed fee), but the exact percentage, the fixed fee and the currency vary. This calculator includes the published rates for the United States, United Kingdom, Eurozone, Australia and Canada.

Are personal payments to friends and family free?

Domestic personal payments funded by your PayPal balance or bank account are free in most countries. If the payment is funded by a card, or if it is sent across borders, PayPal applies a fee. Use the international preset to estimate that case.

How do I make the buyer cover the PayPal fee?

Use the right-hand card on the calculator: enter the net amount you want to keep, and the calculator returns the gross amount you should invoice. Charge that gross amount and PayPal's deduction will leave you with exactly the net you wanted. Note that some PayPal terms restrict surcharging — review the merchant agreement that applies in your country.

Why does my real fee not match this calculator?

PayPal occasionally runs promotional or industry-specific rates, and your fee can change if your account is enrolled in a special programme (charity, micropayments, high-volume merchant, etc.). The calculator uses the standard published rates; treat the result as a close estimate and verify in your PayPal dashboard for any individual transaction.

Is FeeCalculator.net affiliated with PayPal?
